Orthodontic Consultations at the Jersey Shore
Consultations at Cuozzo are simple and insightful. Your first consultation includes complimentary dental imaging for kids and a sit-down with one of our friendly orthodontic specialists. We’ll ask and answer some important questions together.
What an Orthodontic Consultation Helps Determine
An orthodontic consultation looks beyond whether the teeth appear straight. It helps our specialists evaluate tooth alignment, the way the upper and lower teeth meet, available space, jaw development, and whether treatment is appropriate now or should be considered later.
During the consultation, we can begin answering several important questions:
Is orthodontic treatment currently necessary?
Is the patient still growing or waiting for permanent teeth to erupt?
Are there concerns involving crowding, spacing, overbite, underbite, or crossbite?
Which treatment options may be appropriate?
How long could treatment take?
What will treatment cost?
The result is a clearer understanding of what is happening and what should come next. In some cases, that means discussing treatment; in others, the right recommendation is to wait and monitor development.
Why an Evaluation by an Orthodontic Specialist Matters
Orthodontics involves more than moving visible teeth. Our board-certified orthodontists evaluate the relationship among the teeth, bite, jaws, and facial development before recommending treatment.
That broader evaluation is particularly important for growing children, whose dental development can change significantly as baby teeth are lost and permanent teeth erupt. Adults also benefit from a treatment plan based on their bite, oral structures, alignment concerns, and long-term goals.

A Recommendation Based on the Patient, Not Just the Appliance
There is no single orthodontic treatment that is right for everyone. Age, dental development, bite concerns, tooth position, lifestyle, and the complexity of the case can all influence which approach is recommended.
The consultation gives patients and parents an opportunity to understand why one option may be more appropriate than another. It also establishes whether an appliance is needed at all, helping avoid treatment that starts before it can provide a meaningful benefit.
Timing is everything.
We always take patients, but sometimes it takes patience.
Getting braces too soon can damage a child’s teeth and disrupt their life. We’ve built our practice on providing the right orthodontic treatment at the right time, resulting in big smiles from happy patients. We’ll never suggest early treatment or “training braces."
Still have a lot of
baby teeth?
We'll recommend we wait a while.
Don’t worry; the consultation and imaging are still complimentary. Your child can enter our early observation program for return visits every 6 months until it’s the right time for treatment.
What Happens When a Child Is Not Ready for Treatment?
A consultation does not automatically lead to braces. If a child still has significant dental development ahead, our orthodontists may recommend monitoring the teeth and jaws rather than beginning treatment immediately.
Cuozzo’s early observation program provides return visits every six months so our team can follow changes as permanent teeth erupt. This allows treatment to begin when it can be most effective, while giving parents a reliable source of guidance in the meantime.
Orthodontic Consultations for Adults
Adults can schedule an orthodontic consultation whether they are considering treatment for the first time or revisiting concerns that were never addressed earlier. A referral from a general dentist is not required.
The consultation can help determine whether adult orthodontic treatment is appropriate and which options warrant further consideration. Patients can also discuss expected timing, cost, and the practical details of fitting treatment into daily life.
