Our experienced orthodontist, Dr. Patrick Cuozzo, recently returned from a mission trip with Remote Area Medical (RAM) Volunteer Corps where he and other professionals provided healthcare and dental services to those in need.
Dr. Cuozzo says participating in a mission trip in the United States is more reasonable and relatively easy to do versus carrying equipment overseas. He realizes that there are people in the US who are in need of dental care just as much as people outside the country, which is why he chose to participate in the RAM health clinic.
“The company sets everything up for us, which allowed me to spend more time providing dental services to patients rather than getting all the supplies in place,” Dr. Cuozzo says. “I was so satisfied knowing that I was able to give back to the community and provide these services to people who really need it.”
During the RAM event, Dr. Cuozzo provided several general dentistry services to patients, including extractions, restorations, cleanings and fluoride treatments. He talked to patients about the importance of oral hygiene and how to keep their teeth and gums healthy.
Dr. Cuozzo also brought his son on the mission trip to help out and ease patients’ nerves before their dental treatment. “My son really enjoyed it, and it was good exposure for him to see there are people really in need.”
This is the second RAM trip Dr. Cuozzo has participated in, and he plans on continuing to participate in similar mission trips in the future.
