bracesAlthough braces and other orthodontic techniques are often thought to be primarily treatments for children and adolescents, you may be surprised to learn that a large percentage of orthodontic patients are over 21. While many adults may be wary of undergoing orthodontic treatment because they believe it will cause discomfort or negative effects on their appearance, the fact is that orthodontic technology has advanced in many ways over the years, resulting in new treatment options that are more comfortable and more discreet.

Our orthodontist and the experienced team here at Cuozzo Orthodontic Specialists offer a full range of treatments that can be customized for adult patients. With our state-of-the-art selection of orthodontic options, you can correct crowding and malocclusions with less concern about how your smile will appear during the treatment process!

Getting Braces as an Adult

If you are considering orthodontic treatment, our orthodontist can perform a comprehensive examination of your oral structures and help you determine the best option for your needs. For adult patients, braces typically need to stay on a bit longer since the jawbone and teeth are already fully developed; however, this is not necessarily the case for everyone. Plus, new technologies make it possible for the treatment process to be more comfortable (and significantly less noticeable) when compared to those utilized in the past.

During your initial consultation, our orthodontist will also look for signs of gum disease or bone deterioration. If these conditions are present, they will need to be treated before orthodontic procedures can be performed. If you are ready to begin orthodontic treatment, a customized treatment plan will be developed, and our orthodontist will explain all aspects of the process so you will know what to expect.

Braces and other types of orthodontic procedures can ultimately resolve what may have been a lifetime of problems. Together, we can help you correct these issues with results that improve both the look and function of your teeth.

What Are My Adult Braces Options?

Here are a few of the adult braces options available at our practice (including one treatment that doesn’t involve braces at all!):

Metal Braces

Traditional metal braces have been utilized successfully and effectively for decades. This option uses a system of brackets and wires to correct teeth misalignment and/or bite concerns. While they are the most noticeable orthodontic solutions, they can be an ideal selection for some patients.

Invisalign® is a very popular orthodontic treatment option, particularly for adult patients. This solution involves no metal whatsoever. Invisalign® is composed of a series of customized, clear aligner trays designed to gradually move the teeth into a more desirable position and correct mild to moderate levels of misalignment, crowding, or bite irregularity. One of the major benefits of Invisalign® is that the removable aligners are so translucent they are virtually invisible on the teeth.

Clear Ceramic Braces

Some types of braces use the same kind of mechanics employed by traditional metal braces while reducing the aesthetic drawbacks. Clear ceramic braces are made to resemble your natural tooth color, creating a more seamless blend with your teeth so they are not as visible during treatment.

How Much Do Adult Braces Cost?

According to a recent survey by the American Dental Association, the average cost of braces for adults frequently ranges from about $4,800 to $9,800. Although this is a general average, it is important to remember that each individual patient has distinct orthodontic needs and goals. Since the treatment is customized based on the type of orthodontic treatment that is being performed, the complexity of the concerns being addressed, how long it may take to achieve the best results, and other factors, the overall cost varies from patient to patient.

Dental insurance policies often make coverage available for braces and other orthodontic treatment options, including Invisalign®. When your treatment plan is developed during the initial consultation, a member of our orthodontics team will calculate a total cost estimate and answer your questions regarding insurance or other payment methods we accept. Cuozzo Orthodontic Specialists also works with CareCredit®, a company that offers a range of convenient financing plans for qualified applicants. We can talk with you about the variety of ways you can make orthodontic treatment as affordable as possible.
