While most orthodontic patients will wear braces before the onset of puberty between the ages of 10 and 12, the American Association of Orthodontics recommends that children as young as age 7 be scheduled for a preliminary examination to assess the potential need for orthodontic treatment. If there is no immediate need for treatment, a follow-up “recall” visit is arranged for further observation. If treatment is recommended, a diagnostic consultation is scheduled. The initial visit is complimentary; no dentist referral is needed to arrange an appointment with our office.
During a diagnostic consultation impressions of the patient’s teeth will be taken to create a study model by computerized imaging. Facial and intraoral photographs are taken, along with cephalometric (head) and panorex (full mouth) x-ray images.
Parents or guardians are requested to join Dr. Pat for the consultation with the patient. During this visit, the doctor reviews all diagnostic x-rays, models and photographs, and discusses the diagnosis and recommended plan of treatment in detail. Written estimates on total cost and anticipated length of treatment are provided. Our office staff is available to discuss insurance matters, interest-free plans and other payment options.
