Orthodontist in New Jersey Discusses Oral Health and Early Detection
A recent study by the American Association of Orthodontists estimates that more than one million people in the United States and Canada are wearing braces every year. New Jersey orthodontist Dr. Patrick Cuozzo says patients who decide to undergo corrective treatment for misaligned teeth at an early age are more likely to lessen total treatment time, promote proper bone growth, and improve oral health. Dr. Cuozzo discusses reasons to take a proactive approach to correcting crooked dental alignment as well as the best time to seek professional orthodontic care.
Dr. Patrick Cuozzo, a board-certified orthodontist and Elite Provider of Invisalign in New Jersey, says seeking treatment for malpositioned teeth early on in life can offer significant health and cosmetic benefits over postponing a procedure. With over one million people in the United States and Canada currently wearing braces every year, according to a recent study by the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO), he says patients who undergo a procedure such as Invisalign® or clear braces while they are still young can achieve a healthier, more structurally appealing mouth. While the AAO study also reports that only 1 in 5 orthodontic patients are adults, Dr. Cuozzo adds that correcting misaligned teeth early can lessen the total treatment time required, promote proper bone growth, and improve overall oral health.
By the time children have developed most of their permanent teeth, Dr. Cuozzo says he recommends parents begin consulting with an orthodontist, as childhood is the optimal time for identifying future dental concerns and guiding teeth in the proper direction for healthy development. He says orthodontic treatment early on can also help reduce the risk of future complications such as impacted teeth, the need for permanent tooth extractions, and other invasive dental treatments. For patients seeking braces in New Jersey, Dr. Cuozzo adds the earlier an orthodontist can identify teeth movement, the more accurate he or she will be at predicting the right course of action for treatment, thus yielding the most effective results.
Regardless of what age patients begin seeking corrective procedures for their teeth, Dr. Cuozzo encourages his patients to consult with an experienced and qualified orthodontist before undergoing any treatment. He adds that because of the difficulty and complexity of orthodontic care, patients should thoroughly research their orthodontist’s credentials as well as the most up-to-date procedures available.

Top Orthodontist in New Jersey Discusses Adult Orthodontic Options
According to a recent study by the American Academy of Orthodontics (AAO), five million people in the U.S. and Canada are currently undergoing orthodontic treatment, one million of which are 18 years of age and older. Dr. Patrick Cuozzo, an orthodontist in New Jersey, says the number of adults opting for orthodontic corrective procedures has risen at his practice. While many patients are concerned that having braces as an adult will mean significant discomfort and embarrassment, Dr. Cuozzo says that with modern advancements in orthodontic techniques, there are more subtle options available for correcting the appearance of crooked teeth.
New Jersey orthodontist Dr. Patrick Cuozzo says that he has seen a growing popularity in adults pursuing orthodontic treatment at his practice. The American Academy of Orthodontics (AAO) recently released a study that shows similarities with Dr. Cuozzo’s observations, reporting that 20% of all patients currently undergoing orthodontic treatment in the U.S. and Canada are 18 and above. In addition, the latest study from the Journal of the American Dental Association reports that between 137 and 154 million American adults have some degree of malocclusion (crooked or misaligned teeth) and could benefit from orthodontic treatment. With such a significant portion of the American population affected by misaligned teeth, Dr. Cuozzo says modern orthodontics has paved the way for several options in corrective procedures, ranging from Invisalign® to lingual braces.
Dr. Cuozzo also says development in the past few years in adult orthodontics has meant older patients can now seek more subtle options for teeth alignment. He says many patients are concerned that orthodontic treatments will be an uncomfortable, unattractive hindrance to their daily life. However, Dr. Cuozzo adds that while teeth alignment treatments often conjure images of adolescence and metal brackets, there are many options for correcting crooked teeth for patients who prefer to do so with more discretion. Invisalign® treatment uses sets of custom-made and removable clear trays designed to gradually straighten teeth over time. Another option for many patients is lingual braces, which fit on the back of teeth and are therefore not visible to others, but use the same technology as traditional braces to pull teeth into a straighter position.
Whether patients are looking for clear braces or Invisalign in New Jersey, Dr. Cuozzo says orthodontics can offer patients of all ages improved self-confidence and a more beautiful smile. He also says that taking action to correct teeth can improve oral health and prevent future dental complications.
